First two Thing victims announced...


The first two cast members have been announced for Matthijs Van Heijningen's prequel to John Carpenter's classic The Thing. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Joel Edgerton) to stop the rampage. The script was written by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer...

DreamWorks set to adapt Locke & Key...


Dreamworks has picked up the rights for Joe Hill's horror comic Locke & Key from Dimension reports Dread Central. The live action adaptation will be produced by writer/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci...

About the comic: Locke & Key tells the tale of three children who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in the New England town of Lovecraft that is full of secrets and magic. The trio discover special doors which take them to different places, give them powers, and even alter gender and skin color. Behind one door is a dangerously violent creature and you know it's only a matter of time before it gets out...

Synergetic Distribution released Balaji K. Kumar's 9 Lives of Mara, which he co-wrote with Eric Massey, on DVD this week, and fangoria.com has the details...

The DVD, which retails for $24.98, features an anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer with Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo sound, an audio commentary by Kumar and Massey, "Through the Corridors of Time" documentary by Massey about The Malleus Maleficarium, "The 9 Lives of Lovecraft" featurette by H.P. Set in 1848, Nevermore is loosely based on real events and follows Poe on a cross-country speaking tour fraught with strange occurrences that signal Poe's descent into madness

Chris Landreth's Lovecraft...


Chris Landreth's animated Lovecraft biopic gets some press over at Variety.com (see: Canadian horror hits mini-boom). The project, based on Hans Rodionoff's graphic novel, will be produced by Steven Hoban (Ginger Snaps). No further details are mentioned, but it's nice to see that the project hasn't been forgotton...
