The Unnamable nears...

Good news out of Germany as Sascha Renninger sends word that The Unnamable is nearing the end of post production. The film is a faithful adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name, and should run around 15 minutes when completed...

About the film: New England in the 1930's...

Two friends, Randolph Carter and Joel Manton, spend a sunny autumn afternoon in an old 17th century cemetery. An argument arises concerning horror stories written by Carter, especially one story that draws Manton's sarcasm: The Unnamable...

Encouraged by the atmosphere of the old burial ground Carter tells his friend about the origin of the novel. He claims it to be based on a local legend more than 200 years old. Manton listens with increasing fascination, while darkness descends on the cemetery, and suddenly both of them become part of the legend as well...

Is Ron Howard adapting Lovecraft...

This one could really open the Lovecraftian floodgates...

Variety reports that Universal and Imagine Entertainment are teaming up for an adaptation of The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft. The Image Comics graphic novel, created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz, "borrows elements from Lovecraft's life, such as his family's struggle with mental illness and his own bouts with writer's block, and transforms the young writer's darkest nightmares into reality when he comes across a book that puts a curse on him and lets the evils he conjures up loose on the world". Look for it to hit shelves on April 8th...

Mac Carter will adapt the graphic novel for the screen and serve as executive producer along will Blitz. Imagine's Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producers...

According to Variety sources, the film is a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard...

ED4, will Bruce Campbell return...

Yes, if Sam Raimi has anything to say about it...

"He can dream all he wants. He's trying to get out of getting back in shape," says Raimi, "I'm going to kick his butt in shape. I'm gonna say 'get back in the chainsaw!'"

So will Sam Raimi ever commit to making Evil Dead 4?

"I hope to, yes," Raimi admitted, "Every time I say I would like to [revisit the films], people say, 'where the hell is it!?!' But I'm just glad people are still interested. But yes, I would really like to do [another 'Evil Dead' film]. I've just got a commitment to make 'Spider-Man 4' right now though."

Behind-the-scenes: House of Black Wings...

Here's an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at a film that we at
Unfilmable.com can't wait to see, Sword & Cloak Productions' House of Black Wings...

Written and directed by David Schmidt (The Lovecraft Syndrome) and backed by a talented group of individuals including cast members Leah Myette, Katherine Herrera and Michael Klug (click here for additional cast and here for crew),
Black Wings has completed post-production and is already en route to several major film festivals...

The official site can be found here, the trailer here...

About the film: After a tragic act of violence cuts short her music career, Kate Stone is returning to a city full of ex-fans and ex-friends. Taking shelter with her last friend, a struggling artist named Robyn Huck, the two women work to restore the aging courtyard apartment building Robyn has inherited. But a terrible secret infests the venerable structure, and soon Kate will be haunted by horrific dreams, sinister apparitions, and the sounds of something moving in the walls. She will be dragged into a confrontation not only with her own dark past, but the unspeakable nightmare that lurks beyond the walls...

David Schmidt directing Leah Myette ("Kate") & Katherine Hererra ("Robyn") in a dramatic moment in the dark.

Paul Naschy stars in The Valdemar Inheritance...

Inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, José Luis Alemán's La Herencia de Valdemar (The Valdemar Inheritance) stars Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy and starts when Luisa Llorente, an expert in building appraisal, disappears shortly after moving to the mysterious Victorian mansion owned by the Valdemar family. The owner of Luisa's company hires someone to find the appraiser, but soon they find out that he was not the only disappearance. The film is set in the nineteenth and early twentieth century and in modern times...

Written and directed by José Luis Alemán, the film also stars Laia Marull, Daniele Liotti, Óscar Jaenada, Eusebio Poncela and Silvia Abascal...

When asked about adapting Lovecraft to the screen Naschy said, "All who have tried so far have failed," and in November of 2008 director José Luis Alemán spoke about the Lovecraft influence on Valdemar, "Lovecraft is one of the authors of fantasy genre more difficult to adapt because their work is descriptive and almost no dialogue. Therefore, instead of a specific work we have to endorse his universe to create a free script, but with mythology and iconography..."

If all goes as planned, The Valdemar Inheritance will be released in two installments, the first coming in 2009...

The Thing goes there...

Details have emerged concerning the prequel to John Carpenter's
The Thing currently awaiting Universal's approval. The script, written by Rondald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), takes place in the time leading up to the events portrayed in Carpenter's classic. Matthijs Van Heijningen is already attached to direct...

Moore tells Sci Fi Wire, "...
the idea was to make a companion piece to Carpenter's. I started on the project with the feeling that Carpenter's version is just an amazing piece of work. It's a great film, and we really wanted to honor that version."

Re-Animator remake not dead...

Producer Ray Haboush of Halcyon International Pictures has now spoken out about the proposed Re-Animator remake (in 3D) and it looks like it has indeed been discussed (without Stuart Gordon's involvement)...

"This current rumor about Elisha Cuthbert appearing in the remake of Re-Animator is just that - a rumor," Ray Haboush tells ShockTillYouDrop.com, "Actually the whole idea that we are remaking the movie this summer, in Spain nonetheless, is completely off base...especially as no talent - writer, director, nor actor - has been attached to this project in any capacity whatsoever. We have been discussing amongst ourselves the idea of remaking Re-Animator, in 3D, however, at the moment, it is still only a concept. For now, all of Brian [Yuzna]'s attention is focused on prepping Amphibious, a creature feature to be shot in 3D, that he's directing next month in Southeast Asia."

I'm sure we will be hearing more about this one soon...

Sam Raimi vs. The Evil Dead...

Here's the latest round of Evil Dead comments from writer/director Sam Raimi, who is currently promoting his new horror film, Drag Me to Hell...

On the Evil Dead remake:

"I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead. That film was made in 16mm on a shoestring budget and blown up to 35mm. The visual effects are crumby, it was done in mono, not even stereo, let alone 5.1. What you could do with it now would be so much better. I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation. It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen"

On Evil Dead 4:

"Like any movie it's hard to say if you want to do it or if you don't want to do it until there is a script to talk about. So one day I hope to have the time to write a script, and if that happens I'm hoping that Bruce [will be back]"

The Festival update...

Here's a little more info on Richard Terrasi's The Festival from the website Arrow in the Head...

Arrow reports that Richard had to expand on Lovecraft's original story to fill out the feature-length running time, and that according to the director, "It's a story that I've been itching to make for a while. I had to write a screenplay that would have interesting characters and a good story, and at the same time be faithful to the short piece."

Richard added that The Festival is a "very dark film driven by visuals, mood and lots of tension."

About the film: A struggling author named Charles Keene travels from NYC to meet with his fiancée's grandparents for a traditional festival held once a year in a small New England town. Upon arrival, he learns that something much stranger and creepier is going on beyond your normal town festival...
