Inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, José Luis Alemán's La Herencia de Valdemar (The Valdemar Inheritance) stars Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy and starts when Luisa Llorente, an expert in building appraisal, disappears shortly after moving to the mysterious Victorian mansion owned by the Valdemar family. The owner of Luisa's company hires someone to find the appraiser, but soon they find out that he was not the only disappearance. The film is set in the nineteenth and early twentieth century and in modern times...
Written and directed by José Luis Alemán, the film also stars Laia Marull, Daniele Liotti, Óscar Jaenada, Eusebio Poncela and Silvia Abascal...
When asked about adapting Lovecraft to the screen Naschy said, "All who have tried so far have failed," and in November of 2008 director José Luis Alemán spoke about the Lovecraft influence on Valdemar, "Lovecraft is one of the authors of fantasy genre more difficult to adapt because their work is descriptive and almost no dialogue. Therefore, instead of a specific work we have to endorse his universe to create a free script, but with mythology and iconography..."
If all goes as planned, The Valdemar Inheritance will be released in two installments, the first coming in 2009...
