The King of Death is coming...

A film that might be worth keeping an eye on is Peter Briggs's Mortis Rex (I first found the film under the H.P. Lovecraft keyword on the IMDb)... set in 122 AD; the story revolves around Cassius Virius, a disgraced Roman war hero who is sent to Scotland to team up with Syrus Petronius, the washed-up commander of the Roman fort of Briga Magna on Hadrian's Wall. Briga Magna has been suffering a spate of inexplicable deaths, which Cassius suspects is connected to the local hostile Druid populace, who may be readying another rebellion. What he actually uncovers is much more deadly and horrifying...

Written by Briggs (co-screenwriter of Hellboy), who will also direct, the $25-30m creature feature is scheduled for production later this year, with casting currently underway...

"As a former cinematographer, and as a screenwriter writing on some of the most memorable Hollywood tent-pole horror and sci-fi franchises of recent years," Briggs tells bloody-disgusting.com, "I've used that to shape Mortis Rex into a highly accessible piece of entertainment: by turns both an action-packed thrill-ride and equally a scary, heart stopping nail-biter. Working with Intandem and their expertise in film finance and sales I'm excited about the potential of the film."
